Football end of season video

The end of an era...

...okay, so that's a bit extreme.  But the era of the 2011 season of Chelsea K/1 football is over.  But that's kind of a long blog post title so I went with the more dramatic "end of an era" one.  You are welcome.

Our boys made it to the playoffs....and they played Hoover on Tuesday night in the first round.  Hoover won.  Hoover is undefeated and are just a really good team.  My little guy had a rough game....the Hoover players were just pounding him (and a few of the other ball carriers) like crazy.  This whole season he never came off the field with an injury but during two tough hits he was crying pretty badly about his arm...so he sat out for one play.  He turned out to be okay, but between him getting hurt, getting pounded on the field and the big loss (and our first shut out) he was pretty emotional at the end of the game.  BROKE.  MY.  HEART.  After the game we went to dinner with "the group" to celebrate our great season....and he was fine by the time we got to dinner.

We ended the season winning more than we lost (5 wins, 3 losses).

This was Brad's first year head coaching and David's first year as quarterback....so I'd say they both did great.  Brad did a really good job recruiting some awesome guys as his assistant coaches - which really helped to make the season what it was.  

While I am truly sad the season is over I am looking forward to some down time between now and when basketball starts in December.  I have a lot of Christmas gifts to work on.  :)

Homecoming Game

Tonight was our homecoming game for the K/1 Chelsea Hornets.

Two days ago a sweet cheerleader, who David went to Kindercare with, showed up at the house to decorate the front door and mailbox for him. She also had a nice little gift to give him. Her mom told me that she picked David because she knew him. :)

Before the game, each player gave a cheerleader a rose and then walked off the field with them.

(Please notice that Savannah is looking right at David but he's too shy to look directly in her eyes so he was looking past her).

Unfortunately, we played Hoover (the only undefeated team in our league). Our boys hung in there and played hard. The first first down came in the 4th quarter along with the first and only touchdown of the game (scored by David!).

We lost, but it was still fun. Our boys play Hoover again in the playoffs so they will be practicing hard the next couple of weeks. I am so glad that our cheerleaders made the game even more special for these players.

DIY - Football Poster

This Sunday is our pep rally for all of the Chelsea Football/Cheerleaders. I decided to make a big poster of David to hang on the fence at all of our home games (starting with the pep rally tomorrow).

I didn't find this idea on Pinterest, but it should be there. Slightly obsessed with Pinterest, by the way.

What you will need:

- 20x30 poster on photo paper (so it's stronger than a regular poster)

- 20x30 foam core board

- Rubber Cement (buy the no-wrinkle, acid free kind that is safe for pictures)

Who knew they still even made rubber cement? The last time I used it was in 5th grade. Seriously. That was, um, 21 years ago. Oh em gee.

You will spread the rubber cement on the foam core board and on the back of the picture - small amounts at at time because it dries pretty quick. Smooth it out as you go.

If you accidentally get rubber cement on the front of the picture - it's okay - as it will rub right off when it dries.

The picture below shows the depth of the foam core board. It's not super thick but enough to be sturdy when it's hanging on the fence. And I hope to salvage it after the season and hang it in the play room.

Next up - I'm making a football burlap door hangar for our front door. Will post pictures when I'm done.

I know I'm wishy-washy. Apparently very much so. I went to wordpress and like a lot of features of it, but also hated my template. I couldn't get past how lame and boring it was. So I (think) I am back to blogger.

So let's try this again, shall we?

Football friends

David's first season of football is over. WAAAHHHH! So sad.

The boys had a great time playing together, making friends, knocking heads, and scoring touchdowns. It's amazing to look back and see how much they've learned from the beginning of the season to now. And I'm talking about both David and Brad. Brad was a great assistant coach and was in charge of making sure all of the boys had the right playing time.

I went to school the morning of their playoff game and snapped a few pictures of the boys that go to school with David.

We'll miss football - for the past few months we've been at a football practice or game 4-5 times a week. It's been fun. For sure.

Now we move onto basketball. Brad is a head coach and Ethan's dad, Chris, is going to be an assistant coach. This should be a fun basketball season too. Especially now that we have made friends in Chelsea and know more and more people. Too bad we can't stack the team with kids that we know (and like). Hee hee! Evaluations are on Sunday....and the coaches will draft the kids then, so we should know who is on our team pretty soon.

Homecoming - Part II

Last Sunday was our homecoming game against Pelham.

We have two games left. Since there are only 4 teams in our league - we will definitely go to the playoffs.

Homecoming

Homecoming is this weekend for our little Chelsea Hornets. We play Pelham and luckily we stomped all over them last game, so hopefully we'll have the same results this time around. So far the boys have won 1, lost 2. 2-2 sounds so much better than 1-3. So hopefully we'll win this weekend.

The parents are making posters of each of their kids and the cheerleaders will have a special presentation on the field for the boys for homecoming. Each child will get a football to take home. And each time a touchdown is scored the cheerleaders will be throwing nerf footballs into the stands. I'm anticipating much pomp and circumstance.

Football, football, football

Last week David's football team played Thompson. They won 57-27. :(

They had one really fast kid who scored all but one of their touchdowns (if I have my facts straight). While we really want to win, the boys still had fun and that's what counts.

It was a good game, but afterwords there was a bit (ok, a LOT) of drama from one of the parents. This parent was totally out of line but our head coach handled it really well. I was just amazed at how a grown person can act like such a child. Oh my. This is what David thought about it.

Then Friday night, at the Chelsea High football game (vs. Pinson Valley) they acknowledged all of the little football teams and announced each kid and coach by name. That was kind of cool.

The boys got to line the field as the high school players ran onto the field. They gave each kid a five as they ran by. It was neat to think that in 9 years that could be David running onto the Chelsea High football field.

My friend, Cara, joined us at the game and David's best buddy, Drake, and Drake's dad stayed so the boys could hang out. We tried to take Drake to dinner on David's b/day night, but we had a last minute football practice scheduled for that night. He was pretty happy that Drake stayed for the game. They ate 3 orders of nachos and cheese together, climbed up and down the bleacher seats a hundred times and acted like wild boys. And I think they watched a few minutes of the game too.

Friday Night Lights

Or Monday Night Lights. Or Sunday afternoon lights. None of our games are on Fridays...but football is now in full swing. The boys have been practicing for 6 weeks now.

Yes, I know I haven't posted in a while, Pa. Sorry! And yes, I know that I've already posted some of these pictures....but I downloaded a new Photoshop action tonight and was trying it out. So easy. I'm a fan!

We had our first game last Sunday and nearly beat Helena - the team with a 2nd grader and most of the kids look to be right at the 80 pound weight limit. David is 50 and he's definitely not the smallest on our team.

When we played in our first scrimmage 3 weeks ago against Helena they stomped all over our boys (they won by 4 or 5 touchdowns, I think). But on Sunday, our boys did great. We were up by 1 point with 4 minutes left in the game. Then Helena scored and ended up winning. The boys were not sad at all....they had fun and our coaches and parents did too. It's really fun to be part of a sports organization like Chelsea football. Hopefully our next game (Monday night) they will win.

Thursday Night Lights

David's first scrimmage was last Thursday, against Helena. Otherwise known as the team with kids twice the size of ours. Apparently they don't have any 5 year olds on their team....which leads me to believe that they have all 1st graders. No wonder the final score didn't go our direction. While it sure is nice to win, that's not all that matters.....

My Hornet

Here is a picture of David the first time he tried on his full pads. Ain't he cute?

They look like little blue m&m's when they are all on the field running around. I'm very impressed with how the coaches are warming them up, going through the drills with the kids, keeping them hydrated and giving them breaks at regular intervals. I can already see how these kids are learning and getting better.

Our first scrimmage is in 2 weeks....and while they are learning a lot....they still have a lot to learn. Tonight was the first night of tackling...boy, they loved that.

The Drill
