Christmas Tree Farm

Today we went to a local Christmas Tree farm to cut down our tree. We have been doing this since 1998 (the year we were married) and now it's even more fun because David looks forward to it too. We had never been to this one before but will definitely go here from now on. It was very nice...with good trees, a tractor ride, lots of random dogs running around (which David loved) and real live reindeer. The one pictured below clearly isn't Rudolf because it doesn't have a red nose.
Me and my boy:This is the tree we picked out:
We are still decorating the tree...so I'll post a picture of it done later.

I am thankful

While eating turkey (which by the way was the best I've ever made) we were talking about things we were thankful for. David told us he is thankful for mama, daddy, Sammydog, Kitty, Radar, our house, food, God, the sun, many family members and friends (which he named one by one) and my Pooh bear slippers. Good thing the slippers made the list - I was wondering if he was thankful for them.

I am so thankful for so many things too. I am thankful for everything David is thankful for above (although I could find some different things to replace my 12 year old Pooh slippers) - but after spending three weeks in three different Central and South American countries this summer and last - I am also thankful for simple things like clean running water, a roof over my head, my job, and my health. These are things I've often taken for granted, but I shouldn't. God has blessed me and my family immensely and I don't tell Him thank you enough.

On a sad note - last week the mom of one of David's little friends in his class was murdered. Her daughter, Faith Marie, is 3 and has lost her mom forever. My heart is broken for this little girl and her dad. Please take some time to pray for this family. I'm sure that today is especially hard for the entire family as they celebrate their first Thanksgiving without Emily.

Basketball and Demolition (luckily not at the same time)

David has started playing basketball this fall at the local gym. He was very excited about the first practice but when we got there he was a little clam and wouldn't participate. He started like this - holding the ball and not looking at anyone....
Or only at us....
Then his coach got him to shoot some baskets....He opened up to the kids and actually started enjoying it with about 5 minutes left in the practice. His second practice went much better and he was being a little champ on the court. We think he's really going to enjoy playing. His first game in December 13th.

DEMO
So about a year after we started talking about it we are finally building bookshelves in the office. This was day one - David helped Brad rip up the carpet and molding. I'll post more pictures as we make progress.

Hushpuppies

Last night we went to a great local seafood restaurant and David kept telling us about his quiet dogs. We kept asking him to repeat himself because we couldn't figure out what he was talking about - finally he pointed to his hushpuppies. Too cute.

Heaven

David is learning this verse:

You made the world and everything in it. Psalm 89:11

He's doing a good job with it and on the way home tonight I asked him "Who made the world?"

His reply was God and Jesus (not just God). Then he continues by saying that God and Jesus are his best friends. He tells me that they made the world, the stars, the darkness, the sun, the water and Heaven. Then he asked me if he can go to Heaven so he can see God and Jesus. I wasn't really sure what to say....but I said "If you accept Jesus into your heart you will go to Heaven when you die".

When he hears the word death or dying he gets very concerned and inquisitive...I'm not sure he really understands it. So I told him again that one day, if we accept Jesus, we'll go to Heaven....but until then we'll live here on earth.

He thought about it and seemed okay with my response, then said: "Do they sell dirt bikes in Heaven? Can we go there next week?"

I think he still has some more learning to do about Heaven!

This election

A friend sent this to me today and I think it's worth posting and remembering.

No matter who wins the election:
God is still on the throne.
The Bible will still have the answers.
Prayer will still work.
There will still be singing of praise to God.
There will still be room at the Cross.
Jesus will still love you.
Isn't it great to know who is really in control?

Halloween 2008

Halloween started off getting David dressed up for school. It went well until we walked into the gym where all of his friends were and they came running up to him to check out his costume...he was a dirt bike rider for those of you who can't tell. He's not one who loves attention (especially this kind of attention) so he froze and kinda freaked out. By the time I left school he was happy and sitting with his teacher. They had a Halloween party and a fun time from what I hear!

This is Ms. Lisa Wilkerson - the best 3K teacher on the planet:
Dirt bike rider boy:
Each year we go trick or treating with a very good friend of mine. Wylma loves David like her own grandchild and we love her too. She is so sweet and we love visiting with her and her sister, Bertha. Here are a few pictures of trick or treating with Wylma.

Trick or treating - this is Cher:
Wylma and David...I have a picture just like this for the past 3 years!
What is in here?
Such a ham...
Love this picture of David and Wylma:
Just before coming home we stopped by a friends home in a neighborhood just across the street from ours. They were grilling out and then they brought all the kids to our neighborhood on a hay ride. We saw them as they started down our street and David and I rode on the hay ride for a few minutes. It was fun....then we broke off once our other friends got there. We trick or treated in our neighborhood with a friend, Anna (who is in the picture below) for about an hour and a half. It was a fun night!
