Tonight David helped me bake his birthday cake. He's fierce with the mixer. He's the best help I could ask for...

Bicycles and Football

This weekend we took pictures at a "No Training Wheels" video production shoot for some good friends of mine. I won't post pictures of any of the other cute kids riding their bikes since I don't have their permission and don't really know any of them....but here are some pictures of little man practicing on a bike without training wheels or pedals. He did great for his first time. We've taken the pedals and training wheels off of his bike and he's been practicing balancing the past couple of days.
Saturday afternoon - John & Trisha invited us over to watch the Alabama/Arkansas football
game. We had a great time and met some friends of theirs who have a cute little boy named Micah. David had fun picking up sticks in the yard with John and they went outside to do that
three times throughout the game. David found a couple spiders and John taught him how trees
grow. He then told me all about it later. David loves to learn and likes to teach us what he learns.

Check this out

Had to share this with y'all. I grew up loving DC Talk and still remember every word to this song - check out this video of Mercy Me....it's great.
Under related videos (on the right hand side of the screen) there are some equally great videos of the Mercy Me guys singing Staying Alive, The Eye of the Tiger and Ice Ice Baby. If you have plenty of time on your hands you have to check them out.

Good times

I hung out with a few friends last night thanks to my fabulous husband.

Third Day...
Switchfoot...
And my amazing friend Heather...
This picture is from our trip to Mexico, but the only one I had quick access to today. Brad set it up for Heather to take me (which was a surprise) to the concert. Jars of Clay was there also, but we missed hearing them since we arrived late - that's why they aren't in my list of friend pictures above - we didn't actually hear them. We had a GREAT time!

Cat starts with "d"

So at dinner the other night we were talking about school and what David was learning...which by the way is A LOT. He's blowing me away at the things his teacher is teaching him (sign language, tons of songs, bible verses, Alabama state history). He's the oldest in his class which is a very good thing for him and is catching on really well.

We were talking about words that start with the letter "d". He was doing a good job picking out words like dog, door, daddy, David, etc.

Brad started asking him questions like this...."Does donut start with a 'd'?" He'd think about it for a minute and we'd help him out by saying "D...D...D...donut - does donut start with a 'd'"? He'd say yes. So he caught on and this game went on for a few minutes. Then Brad tried to trick him and asked him if cat started with the letter 'd'. He said yes. Then he said "D...D...D...cat!"

Cute.

The Sparrow

This weekend we were working outside in the yard when Garfield ran across the street with a dead (or so I thought) blue bird in his mouth. Cats just love to bring their kill home and drop it in front of you. Supposedly they want praise...he didn’t get that from me. He dropped it under the truck and I was able to get him away from the bird and into the house so I could deal with the bird. Before I could move it David saw the bird and knelt down beside the truck and just looked at it for a few minutes. I kept trying to get him to go out back but he insisted on staying there - he wanted to look at it. For all practical purposes the bird looked like it was just sleeping. He kept saying “Oh, this birdy wants it’s mama and daddy” over and over again. David has so much compassion for an almost 4 year old…from animals to people, he loves them all and wants to take care of anything or anyone who is sick.

Finally, I got him to agree to leave the bird and when he turned around he had a tear running down his cheek. (This would be one of those 'break your heart' moments). To this point he hadn’t cried – he was only talking to the bird. I asked him why he was sad and he started sobbing...like uncontrollable crying. Through his sobs I could make out that he was sad because the bird wanted it’s mama and daddy. We went inside and he just laid on me and cried for about 10 minutes before Brad or I could console him. We finally talked a little about the bird, then he asked for some chocolate milk. At this point he was emotionally ready to go back outside…chocolate milk fixes everything. He’ll tell you so, ask him.

Before David made it outside Brad called for him to come out front. Apparently the little bird was playing dead. Brad saw it get up, hop across the ground and eventually leave our yard. David was thrilled that the bird was okay and going to find it’s mama and daddy. I guess God had other plans for the little bird.

Thinking about this weekend and the bird reminded me of a verse in the bible: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7, NIV)

In Matthew 10:29 it says “not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.”

Sometimes I find myself getting discouraged over little things (and sometimes big things). But how can I be that way when my heavenly Father watches over each little sparrow….and I know He loves and cares for me? We can rest assured in the knowledge that He is watching us. In His eyes no one is insignificant and I believe He is using this verse to remind me of that.

Our State Park

A few weeks ago we did a photo shoot with a friend and her little boy at our local state park. Here are a couple of the pictures we took that day.

Like any 3 year old boy, David loves playing ball. Here are a few action shots I took.

This is J. the little boy we took pictures of. He's so adorable.
They have a great petting/working farm at the park where they have roaming ducks, chickens, goats, donkeys, peacocks, and sheep that we can feed and pet. The only animals that don't roam are the cows and pigs.
This little guy almost makes me want a pig....almost.

Clearwater Trip and Dirt Bikes

This past weekend we went home for Brad's dad's 60th birthday party. It was a surprise party that he had no idea about. We had about 50 friends and family meet up at his favorite restaurant in Tampa. He was surprised for sure and had a great time. I was a little worried that he would be mad at us for making a big deal out of his b/day, but he wasn't....so it turned out well.

Here is good ole Pa Pop:The cousins (Garrett and Phillip) who haven't seen David since he was 6 weeks old. David LOVES them both and especially had fun tackling Phillip the entire night. We've been looking for a dirt bike for David's 4th b/day and finally found one in Florida. He rode around on his cousins Honda for about 3 hours on Sunday. He rode it like a champ and you never would have thought it was his first time on a bike. He does a mean figure 8 in Rich and Leslee's backyard. He had mucho fun.
Uncle Rich - having as much fun as David if not more...
